GHOST WRITER

One button generates a chord progression and a melody that's built to fit it. Not a chord tool bolted to a melody tool — a whole song idea in a single click, then you drag each part out as MIDI into your own instruments.

Writer's block, meet the RANDOMIZE button.

Ghost Writer doesn't loop through a factory-preset list. Every press builds a fresh progression and a fresh melody from scratch, anchored so the melody actually lands on the chords. Hit it until something grabs you, lock the half you love, and drag the MIDI into your session.

Step 01

Hit RANDOMIZE

One click draws a new chord progression and a matching melody. Every press carries a 64-bit seed, shown on screen, so a song idea is a number you can get back to.

Step 02

Lock what works

Love the chords, not the tune? Hit CHORDS LOCK and randomize again — the melody re-anchors to the frozen chords. MELODY LOCK does the reverse. The last 16 seeds stay on screen so nothing good is lost.

Step 03

Drag it out

Two LED screens, two drag pads. Pull the chord MIDI off one, the melody MIDI off the other, straight into your DAW as separate clips on your own instruments.

Two screens. Both draggable.

Chords on the left, melody on the right, each one a live piano-roll you can grab and drop. There's a preview instrument built in, so you hear the idea before it ever leaves the plugin.

Ghost Writer plugin window — chord screen, melody screen, RANDOMIZE, and the genre dials

VST3 / AU MIDI FX · drops into the MIDI FX slot in Logic, a device chain in Ableton or FL, anywhere MIDI plugins live.

One button up front.
A lot of theory behind it.

What RANDOMIZE draws isn't random noise. Melodies are generated from the science of what makes a hook stick: a common contour with one signature leap, a pentatonic core, cell-based repetition, and strong beats that snap to the chord tones underneath. Sticky by construction, on any progression it draws.

🎲

The RANDOMIZE button

One click = a full song idea: progression plus a melody that fits it. Every press gets a 64-bit seed shown on screen, and the last 16 stay in view, so a good idea is a number you can always call back.

🔒

Chords lock, melody lock

Freeze the half you like and randomize the other. Randomize the melody and it re-anchors to the locked chords; randomize the chords and the melody moves onto the new chord tones. Iterate without losing the good part.

11

Eleven genre families

POP, DOOWOP, EDM, RNB, ROCK, BALLAD, COUNTRY, INDIE, TRAP, HOUSE — or ALL. The Family dial weights the progressions and grooves toward the sound you're chasing instead of a flat random draw.

Energy & Density dials

Energy sets how busy the groove gets; Density thins or fills the parts live on the same seed. Nudge the feel without randomizing the whole idea — same song, more or less air.

Two drag-out screens

Each LED screen is its own drag pad. Pull chord MIDI off one and melody MIDI off the other, as separate clips, straight onto your own instruments. No bounce, no export dialog.

Built-in preview synth

Audition every idea on a preview instrument (or load your own) before you commit. Mute the chords or the melody to hear each on its own, ride the Sound Volume, then drag.

The going rate

Most songwriting plugins want a subscription.

The chord-and-melody generators everyone compares us to are genuinely good tools. A lot of them are also rented by the month, or gated behind an upgrade tier before they'll hand you a melody. Ghost Writer is one payment, and every part of it is already unlocked.

Questions, answered.

Does Ghost Writer make sound on its own?

No — it's a MIDI FX plugin. It writes the notes; your instruments make the sound. Drop it in front of a synth, a piano, a sampler, whatever you already love, and Ghost Writer feeds it chords and melody. There's a preview instrument built in so you can hear ideas before you drag them out.

What DAWs does it work in?

Any DAW that loads VST3 or AU MIDI effects: Logic Pro (MIDI FX slot), Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, and more. In some hosts it lives in a device chain ahead of your instrument. Not Pro Tools: Pro Tools only loads AAX plugins, and we do not make an AAX build.

How is it different from a chord tool?

Most tools hand you a progression and stop. Ghost Writer generates the progression and a melody that's anchored to those exact chords in one click, lets you lock either half and randomize the other, and drags both out as separate MIDI clips. The melody isn't decoration — it's built to sit on the chords.

Will it just spit out copyrighted songs?

No. Chord progressions aren't copyrightable, and the melodies are generated from statistical DNA — contour shapes, rhythm cells, scale and chord-tone rules — not by copying or interpolating any real melody. What comes out is yours.

Is there a demo version?

Yes — at launch, every paid plugin gets a free 10-day demo that's the full thing, not a crippled teaser. Join the list below and you'll get it first.

Do I need an iLok or internet connection?

No dongles, no always-online check. Install it on any computer you work on.

What's the refund policy?

Try the free 10-day demo first — it's the full plugin, so you can hear exactly what you're buying. All sales are final after that, and if something's ever broken on our end, we'll make it right.
